Hugo Ribadeau Dumas, scholar of urban geography, wrote an article titled “How Annie Ernaux’s story parallels the struggles of local languages in Bihar”, published in Himal South Asian on 19 August 2025.

The article is a reading of Annie Ernaux’s novel A Man’s Place from the perspective of Bihar,  focusing on how one specific emotion — shame — sheds light on language politics in India.
