Biography:

Sunayana is a postgraduate in Political Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi with a continuing interest in building participatory research and communication for development and social justice. Throughout her work and engagement with community initiatives and NGOs in urban and rural areas for more than 18 years, she has contributed by facilitating knowledge-building on housing and land rights, labour rights, gender violence, right to health, water, sanitation, and climate crisis through diverse and research-based creative mediums.

She has been supporting the efforts of folk artists in India to access legal information and basic entitlements, access digital spaces and participate in the creative economy with greater dignity for more than a decade now. She has worked closely with music festivals, radio, community podcasts and print media channels by contributing articles, as well as support with translation, research and production of media programs. As a musician, Sunayana has been pursuing her interests in exploring the power of music as an instrument of social change. Apart from being a song writer and performing with music groups, she continues to facilitate trainings and co-creative workshops, especially with the youth, for creating music and inspiring collaborations for social causes.
