BIOGRAPHY:

Raffaello De Leon-Jones Diani is a PhD Candidate at the CESAH – Centre for the Studies of South Asia and Himalayas, a center of the EHESS – School for Advanced Studies of Social Sciences in Paris. His main focus is on Hindu and Jain ascetics in Early Modern India and their relationship with Islamic powers.

His research mobilizes Sanskrit and Persian documents, and texts and attempts to bridge the gaps between disciplines to offer a fuller picture of the presence of ascetics at Muslim courts. His work also deals with Persian translations of Sanskrit texts, Indo-Persian paleography, and hybrid religious interactions.
