Gideon MATHSON

Biography:
Gideon Mathson is a Sociologist who recently taught, as Assistant Professor, at the Department of Sociology and Social Work, Christ University. He completed his M.A and MPhil in Sociology from the Delhi School of economics. The title of his MPhil thesis was Imaging Protest: Tactics, Crowds and Networks, which described the relationship between images and space in relation to urban protests. His PhD thesis entitled Socio-Economic Effects of the 2013 flash floods in Uttarakhand, was completed at Shiv Nadar University, Greater Noida and looked into the effects of the 2013 flash floods on land stability in the district of Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, as well as the effect of the same on Land Administration. He also studied the compensation schema in the wake of the disaster and psycho-social effects of the disaster, to communities in Rudraprayag. While writing up his PhD thesis Gideon also undertook research on homelessness in Old Delhi, which he is currently writing up into a monograph. He is currently engaged in starting out a larger archival project on laws that curtailed vagrancy in the country and is also developing a project that looks into the incidence of violence faced by the homeless in Delhi.
