Corinne LEFÈVRE

Corinne LEFÈVRE

Biography:

Corinne Lefèvre received her Ph.D. (2005) in History from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris. She taught at the INALCO University (Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales) before becoming a CNRS Research Fellow and a member of the Centre for South Asian and Himalayan Studies (CESAH, formerly known as the CEIAS) in 2006.

Through her research, she revisits the political and socio-cultural history of the Mughal empire by considering it within the broader context of precolonial Muslim Asia (from Istanbul to Aceh, via the Deccan sultanates). In order to do so, she draws on a wide array of sources (Indo-Persian narrative literature, paintings, monuments, inscriptions, coins).

Lately, Corinne has shifted her attention to issues of art and material culture: she has recently completed an edited volume on Mughal arts, and published chapters on the Mughals’ relationship with the material cultures of ancient times.

Upon joining the CSH, she has been working on the history of the city of Delhi from the late 12th to the late 19th century.
