[Congratulations!] Soheb NIAZI WIN “The D N Ghosh Prize for the Best Papers in EPW – 2024”

The CSH is pleased to announce that Soheb Niazi, an associate researcher at CSH and a Gerda Henkel postdoctoral fellow affiliated with the Friedrich-Meinecke Institute, Berlin awarded “The D N Ghosh Prize for the Best Papers in EPW – 2024” best paper in all age categories.

Dr. Niazi received this prestigious award for his paper, entitled “Towards a History of Non-ashrāf Muslims: Notes on the Muslim Occupational Castes in Late Colonial India, published in Economic & Political Weekly on 17 August 2024.

This award is in honour of the late Mr. Dhruba Narayan Ghosh — a superb civil servant, a distinguished corporate leader, an innovative banker, a builder of institutions, a natural leader, a scholar, a columnist and, most importantly, a concerned citizen —The Dhruba and Tapasi Social Ventures Foundation has instituted The D N Ghosh Prize for the Best Papers in Economic & Political Weekly (EPW).

EPW is published by Sameeksha Trust, of which the late Mr. D N Ghosh was Managing Trustee between 1992 to 2019, and thereafter, continued as a Trustee until he passed away on 7 November 2023, in Kolkata, at the age of 95.
