About the Panel Discussion:
India’s democratic trajectory has been unique in many respects. There are very few countries outside the developed world of North America and West Europe who have defied many pre-conditions of maintaining democratic regimes. In the past few years, there is an emerging consensus that the democracy project is undergoing a global recession and India too is part of this larger trend. The liberal facets of Indian democracy are indeed under duress. As India completes 75th year of its Independence, this panel will place the country’s democratic journey in a historical and comparative perspective. The panelists will also reflect on the future of India’s democracy project.
This workshop and panel discussion is also supported by Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF), a German political foundation, working globally for the past 60 years in the service of peace, democracy and development. For more details, please visit – https://india.hss.de/
