Synopsis: Cities of Sleep is a luminous and poetic documentary that follows Shakeel, a homeless man on a daily quest for a place to sleep in Old Delhi. As one of the film’s protagonists wisely professes, “those who sleep and awake by their will are the truly free.” The director, Shaunak Sen, received the Oeil d’Or award at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival for his documentary All That Breathes.

About the festival: INDIE TALKIES is a series of film projections curated by the Centre de Sciences Humaines (CSH) and hosted by Alliance Française de Delhi (AFD). Ti takes place once a month. The lineup includes feature-length films and documentaries from across India, showcasing a diversity of languages, formats, and aesthetic sensibilities. It aims to discuss the different financial, artistic, and political facets of independence in filmmaking.
